"Blues Predictions" Episode 119 Season 23

In The Great Gatsby there are these three men, Gatsby, Wilson, and Tom. If I were asked to kiss/marry/kill them this is what I would do.

The character I would kiss would be Tom. Tom is a very strong and aggressive man. In chapter one it says, "Two shining arrogant eyes had established dominance over his face and gave him the appearance of always leaning aggressively forward." This explains how Tom's presence is almost dangerous because he always seems ready to get in a fight. Although Tom is a scary man, this isn't enough to make me want to kill him. In chapter 2 it says, "Making a short deft movement, Tom Buchanan broke [Myrtle's] nose with his open hand." This is also why I wouldn't want to marry Tom. Tom is abusive to both Myrtle and Daisy however he may not be that aggressive to Daisy. I still wouldn't want to be stuck in an abusive relationship.

The Great Gatsby : Memes | SparkNotes

The character I would marry would be Gatsby. Gatsby has lied about who he is; however, I would only know about him by the way he described himself. In chapter 1 it says, "If personality is an unbroken series of successful gestures, then there was something gorgeous about him...". Gatsby has an aura of success and whatever he dreams or puts his mind to it is bound to happen. Except for his love for Daisy but in this case I would be Daisy. In chapter 8 it says, "It excited him, too, that many men had already loved Daisy-- it increased her value in his eyes." Even the silliest stuff led Gatsby to fall head over heels for Daisy. If he did so much for her when just meeting up like mowing Nick's lawn and sending a lot of flowers imagine the things he would do for his wife.

The character I would kill would be Wilson. Wilson was already described to look sickly but in the end he truly lost his mind. In chapter 2 Wilson is described as, "...a blond spiritless man, anemic, and faintly handsome." As he is described as spiritless in the end of the book he goes on to seek revenge. In chapter 8 it says, "It was after we started with Gatsby toward the house that the gardener saw Wilson's body a little way off in the grass, and the holocaust was complete." Wilson ended up killing Gatsby by the assumption that he killed Myrtle and then ended up killing himself. I wouldn't want to kiss or marry someone who is going through this type of stuff.

Now there are these three women, Daisy, Myrtle, and Jordan. If I were asked to kiss/marry/kill them this is what I would do.

The character I would kiss would be Daisy. Daisy is careless but also considered bright and flawless. In chapter 4 it says,"They moved with a fast crowd, all of them young and rich and wild, but [Daisy] came out with an absolutely perfect reputation." Her perfect reputation makes her seem flawless however she is just good at hiding it. At home she doesn't seem to care for her child or how she plays with Gatsby's feelings towards the end of the book. In chapter 8 it says, "Daisy was young and her artificial world was redolent of orchids and pleasant, cheerful snobbery and orchestras which set the rhythm of the year, summing up the sadness and suggestiveness of life in new tunes." This explains how after Gatsby went to war Daisy jumped straight into the high class society and didn't really look at books. Gatsby on the other hand was holding on to her but in the end Daisy knew she was never going to end up with Gatsby. This is why I wouldn't marry Daisy because she doesn't care about others except what her social class looks like.

The character I would marry would be Jordan. Jordan is a strong woman but does tell lies to get herself an advantage. In chapter 3 it says, "She held my hand impersonally, as a promise that she'd take care of me in a minute...". Jordan knew Nick felt uncomfortable at Gatsby's party so she made sure that she was there to help him through it. In chapter 7 it says, "There was Jordan beside me, who, unlike Daisy, was too wise ever to carry  well-forgotten dreams from age to age." This explains how Jordan lives in reality and doesn't get caught up in dreams. Jordan is a very practical and caring person; she doesn't create much drama like the other characters do.

The character I would kill would be Myrtle. I have no real hate towards Myrtle. I just wouldn't put her in the other categories of kiss or marry. Myrtle wants to fit into Tom's world which doesn't fit her as she isn't a high class type of person. In chapter 2 it says, "Mrs. Wilson had changed her costume some time before, and was now attired in an elaborate afternoon dress of cream-colored chiffon...". The costume change into a nicer dress shows how she is now trying to fit into Tom's society while with him instead of being with her husband at home. She also is rude toward servants which depicts her desire to again be a part of Tom's society. This is also shown in chapter 2 saying, "'I told that boy about the ice.' Myrtle raised her eyebrows in desair at the shiftlessness of the lower orders. 'These people! You have to keep after them all the time.'" Myrtle is trying to be someone she is not and that is something that frustrates me the most.
